To aid the ongoing needs of our clients, The Place accepts donations and volunteers.

 

Donation Needs

In Kind Donations for Clients

All In Kind donations and items the agency needs should be taken to the program office Monday-Saturday 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Checks may be mailed to:

Urgent Ongoing Needs

  • Packages of new underwear and socks for school age children are urgently needed.  Must have size on package.(Child – Adult Sizes)

 

Urgent Food Pantry needs are:

  • Parmalat or Borden’s Shelf Boxed Milk
  • Canned Beef Stew
  • Canned Meats
  • Boxed/Canned Potatoes
  • Canned Fruit
  • Spaghetti Sauce
  • Dry Beans 1# Bags

  • Large Brown Grocery bags -- needed to distribute food to our Clients

 

Note:

  • We cannot accept commercial sizes, expired, broken or damaged containers.
  • All food items must be commercially packaged

 

Food Drives

Food drives are very important to ensure that we can adequately meet the food needs for residents who are facing economic hardships.

Food Drives are always appreciated. We do ask you to coordinate with us for a specific need list. Often we have too many of one item and a shortage of other critical food items. Food drives ensure that we are always able to meet the needs of our community.

 

Grocery Card Donations for Clients

  • Cards are only used to meet the needs of our clients if need is justified
  • We would prefer you bring them by and not put them in the mail

Groups Needed To Sponsor Meals at The Place of Forsyth County

The Place provides a weekly Wednesday Noon Day Meal and a monthly Senior Luncheon in Forsyth County and we need your help.  The luncheons supplement our Surplus and Food pantry.  Our objective is to ensure that no one in our community should ever go hungry.  Because these are troubled times and so many depend on these resources, we need your help to “share the spirit of community.”  The Place needs caring groups to provide the food, serve, and to clean the room.

Your donations are greatly appreciated and all donations will be used to assist our residents with their emergency basic needs.

Donations over the Internet using the Network for Good website

Credit card or online check donations may be made over the Internet using the donation website Network for Good. Go to the Home Page and you will find an icon for Network for Good at the bottom.  If you click on the icon, you will be taken to the Network for Good website. There you can enter the name of "The Place". It will come up listed as "Place of Forsyth County Inc". Click on the "donate now" button and follow the instructions.

 

Don’t forget that your financial support is used to help our clients.  All monetary donations are designated for direct client assistance.

 

Agency Volunteer Needs

Volunteer Opportunities -- Regular Schedule

  • Thrift Store Volunteers call 678-947-8825. Volunteers needed Monday-Saturdays. We ask for a 4 hour weekly commitment.
  • Volunteer opportunities to support our various programs. (See the Services section of the website). Call 770-887-1098 for more information.
  • Truck driver(s) needed with clean driving record and must be 62 or under to pick up food and bring it to The Place on Wednesdays or to cover during vacation days.

·         Back to School

o        Each year, help is needed the first week of August

§         July 7th we will start signing up families that cannot afford to purchase their children's school supplies

§         August 4th will be the last day of sign-up for school supplies

o        Note for 2007, volunteers and sponsors provided backpacks for 167 children

·         Hands Across Forsyth – Holiday Program

o        This program provides Thanksgiving food and Christmas gifts for the children of families that are facing financial hardships. (951 children in 2007)

o        English and bilingual volunteer help is needed with the sign-up procedures, office work, returning phone calls, etc. Training is provided.

o        Please call Ruth @ extension 233 if you are interested in helping with this program for October 1st – December 6th 2008.

o        Schedule:

Applications will be taken almost every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. during this time period.
