About Us

The Place is a nonprofit Social Service Organization that has been serving Forsyth County families in difficult times since 1975 with emergency basic needs. The Place also operates a thrift store onsite providing affordable merchandise, all sales support agency operations.

Residents in need of assistance should call the program office at 770-887-1098 for an appointment. You will learn what information and documentation you are required to bring to your scheduled appointment. These documents are critical for the caseworker to determine the best way to assess your needs

Each year our work expands to ensure that we are able to assist the growing population and changing needs of our residents. The Place has provided emergency basic needs in Forsyth County since its inception. We operate through the financial support received from our donors, grants, thrift store sales and the United Way of Forsyth County and donations are critical to our survival. We also rely on many dedicated volunteers to help us carry out our vital mission.

More than ever before our programs depend on your monetary and in-kind donations. Donations provide the resources to assist Forsyth County residents in their time of need. Your help is urgently needed to ensure that our Food Pantry will be able to meet the increased needs this year.

Agency Programs:

  • Food Program: includes our Surplus pantry, Food pantry, Wednesday Noon Day Meals, and monthly Senior Luncheons. Our objective is to ensure that no one goes hungry.
  • Direct Emergency Assistance Program: helps people in crisis situations by preventing disconnection of utilities, prevent eviction/foreclosure, prevent homelessness and refer them if there are medical needs.
  • The Elderly Assistance: ensures that the basic needs of our senior citizens are met.
  • The Medical Fund: provides prescription vouchers for life sustaining medications and provides limited emergency dental care to eliminate pain.
  • Thanksgiving Food Boxes will be provided for families struggling during these difficult economic times.
  • The Youth Program: ensures that the basic needs of children in Forsyth County are met.
  • Thrift Store Program: provides Thrift Store Vouchers for Basic Needs, On The Job Training and Inter Agency Child Need Vouchers.

Other Activities: includes Walkers, Wheelchairs, Fans, Heaters, Shower Facility and Winter Coats Distribution.

All monetary donations are designated for direct financial assistance.

All donations are tax deductible as permitted by law.
